Jamega tour - 2009

You could almost smell the excitement amongst the Jamega team as top Australian Lady amateur Rebecca Flood entered the event at Clevedon in order to warm up for the British Ladies Open Champs.

However she withdrew from the Jamega Tour event at the last minute.
Anyway the first round got under way under blue skies and blisteringly hot temperatures and the players soon realised that although in some ways Clevedon is an older style golf course it was not a pushover for the long hitters. The par of 72 looked to be safe despite the benign conditions as more and more players fell foul of the clever course layout and the rough.
Only 3 players unravelled the puzzle of Clevedon on day one and managed to break par, Chris Brook 70, Steve Kattenhorn 69 and local West Country hero Ross Jones (Orchardleigh) also with a 3 under par 69.

Hot, described day 2 with temperatures hotter than Spain prevailing again as the players took to the baked fairways and quick greens looking to solve the mystery that is Clevedon. Better scores started to arrive on the scorer's desk from the likes of Iwan Griffiths with a 4 under par 68, Andy Lambert, Chris Hiscock and amateur Ashley Mansell each compiling 3 under par 69's.
A fine 3 under 69 from Ben Banks set the house target at 3 under 141 which was equalled with an all out effort from Nathan Treacher who came home with a 4 under par 68.

In the final group Chris Brook was falling off the pace as Ross Jones, with his putting boots firmly laced up, slowly pulled away from his nearest challenger Steve Kattenhorn who was playing steady but un-spectacular golf and would not be able to get to grips with Jones. In the end Jones earned a 4 shot win by shooting the "best of the day" 5 under par 67 with Kattenhorn just shading second, adding a 1 under par 71 to his first round 69.

Jones was deservedly crowned "The Boss of The Moss" with great putting display on Clevedon's far from easy greens. As always the welcome we received at Clevedon was awesome. This is a gem of a golf course set high on the cliffs overlooking the Bristol channel and if> you are looking for a Links / Parkland combo this is the course for you.
