Juniors
We have a thriving Junior Section at Clevedon G.C. with almost
100 members aged between 8 and 17.
Monday evenings are designated as Junior Club nights under
the guidance of Junior Coordinator Tony Brown. Assisted by
parents, young players are introduced to the game and are
taught the necessary skills and etiquette needed to enjoy
their golf to the full. Funds are also available to secure
lessons with our PGA Professional Robert Scanlon.
In addition to the Club Nights, there are also plenty of other
opportunities for the Junior members. There are regular Junior
Competitions (see Junior Golf Year) held on Sunday mornings as well as
the playing for the Club in the Bristol & District Junior
League.
JUNIOR NEWSLETTER – SPRING 2011.
Yet another successful year for you Juniors, ably led by your captain Toby Chapman. We hope to continue our development and success under the new junior captain - Tom Rowlinson. We wish him luck over the next twelve months, his vice – captain is Jamie Tompkins. Both of them will, I have no doubt, represent the club in the best possible way that has become a trademark of the Juniors over the past 7 years.
Over the winter, 20 of our Juniors, beginners and experienced ones, have been attending coaching sessions at Tickenham, sponsored by The Somerset Golf Partnership.
Congratulations must go to Anya Fairhurst, age 8, on becoming the first Rookie Junior to receive a years sponsorship from the Seniors as a result of her effort, application and progress she showed during 2010. Who will win it this year?
The future of Clevedon Golf Club is you Juniors and the ability of the Club to retain members and encourage new members to join, not only Juniors but Adults as well.
To this end the Club has decided to aim for ‘GolfMark’ which is a national scheme that identifies and recognises junior and beginner friendly golf clubs. A lot of what is required is already in place with Coaching and Playing, Club Environment, Child Protection & Duty of Care.
For your information an afternoon has been set aside on FRIDAY 15TH APRIL from 2 – 3pm for Juniors who are complete beginners, so if you have some friends who would like to try GOLF, get them to contact the Club or Tony to book a place. The session is FREE.
Find enclosed the programme of Junior Golf for this spring and summer, starting with the first Club Night on Monday 11th April from 6.pm.
Enclosed is the Junior Handbook, please read and pass onto your parents as there is information for them. Also enclosed for some of you is a Players Profile Form which you must fill in with your parents and hand it back to Tony on the first Club Night or hand it into the Club Office. Some of you have already filled one in last year, so you do not have to fill in this year.
I’m looking forward to seeing you all soon as well as our new members who I will introduce to you on Club Night. Best wishes.

PRESTIGIOUS AWARDS AT CLEVEDON GOLF CLUB
Clevedon Golf Club is the latest Somerset club to be awarded the prestigious GolfMark Award. GolfMark, a national scheme and the initiative of the English Golf Union and Womens Golf Association which incorporates Sport England identifies and recognises junior and beginner-friendly golf facilities.
To gain the award three key areas were assessed:
- Child Protection & Duty of Care
- Club Environment
- Coaching and Playing.
With a busy and successful Junior section already in place at the Club much of the administrative side had already been addressed. It only required the Junior Organiser, Tony Brown to bring things together with the help of Somerset County Development Officers, John Paterson and Paul Barrington. Parents can be reassured that the Club offers an environment where their children will be safe and learn a game that will teach them respect, social & life skills, discipline and honesty. Coaches and volunteers are trained to support the needs of juniors and adult beginners enabling them to develop their playing skills.
